Bethenny Frankel has lost a noticeable amount of weight lately and, when asked how it happened, she said it was a grief diet. Frankel explained that the grieving she’s experiencing over the death of Dennis Shields, her on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Frankel, star of Real Housewives of New York City, is 47 years old and has undergone a difficult time since the passing of Shields. On September 21, she shared an Instagram post that began the discussion about her grief diet. The post was an image of herself holding up a “love” sign. She captioned the image: “All you need is” and added three heart emojis.
Grief Diet Gets its Name
A fan left a comment on Frankel’s Instagram post. She said: “Love the dress. I would look heavier if I wore that. You’re looking extra thin in these photos. How/are you losing weight?” In response, the start replied quite open that it was a grief diet that had caused the pounds to leave. “Death will do that to a person #griefdiet,” she stated. “I don’t recommend it.”
It was clear that Frankel has been struggling through a very difficult time since Shields died. She’s took some time away from social media and her so-called grief diet revealed that her pain has had a physical impact that has lead to unexpected weight loss.
The Impact of Pain
Frankel wrote, “It’s been a minute since I connected with you. Like, actually really just said, ‘Thank you so much,’ because your thoughts, your prayers, your wisdom, your advice has been so incredibly helpful.”
She has undergone a grief diet from her pain. The founder of Skinnygirl went on to explain that: “And for those of you who really know me, I throw myself into something else to solve it, take care of it, deal with it, and I’m definitely taking time to reflect, and I love you all so much. Thank you.”
Grief After 20 Years
Frankel and Shields had been friends for over twenty years. However, on August 10, the businessman was found dead at age 51 in his room in Trump Tower. They dated on and off for two years before Shields died, but were friends throughout the entire time they knew each other. A “grief diet” after such a loss is a sad but explainable thing.
Shields overdosed on prescription pills, according to a New York Post report, though his official cause of death remains unknown as religious reasons prohibited an autopsy. Frankel has been open about her grief and the impact it has had on her life. Her fans continue to be supportive.
